Recycled Green Maggot On My Window
Released 1996
In 1995 the members of Who Cares went into the studio to record their first full length studio album. Recycled Green Maggot On My Window, or “The Green Album,” was recorded at a time when the band had begun a period of tremendous growth. Songs like “Higher Plain” featured a horn section while this 2nd recording of “I’ve Had It Up To Here” featured vocal harmonies and a much tighter groove in the rhythm section. “Week Old Bologna,” “Lyrics Mean Nothing,” and “4.0 Blues” were clear declarations that the band members were musically no longer teenagers but still embraced a sophomoric sense of humor from those years.
The lyrical content on this album was as diverse as the music itself. Songs ranging from the dark subject matter of “Everyone of Us,” to dealing with narcissism in a significant other in “She” to the complex relationships of a band with an overarching sense of togetherness in “Unity.”
While writing this album the group began exploring other musical genres outside of the alternative rock influences found on previous demos. With the recent inclusion of the managing team Craig and David Belis, Who Cares embarked on a rigorous touring schedule balancing personal life, college, and band. By the time the “Green Album” was released the band had already outgrown it. That being said, this collection of tunes captures a band at the end of their beginning and ascending quickly to the next level.
