Ponder Released 1993

In November of 1992 four friends got together and jammed for the first time. A tune was written and a few covers were played. The chemistry was apparent from this first initial meeting. A few months later the group played their first gig. In the spring of ‘93 they went into the studio to record five original songs written in that time span.

This EP, or demo tape, includes “I’ve Had it Up To Here” the initial recording of this song, “Straight In the Mirror,” an alternative rock tune asking people to be honest with themselves and a heavily Rush influenced song called “Demigod.” Other tunes on the demo include “Young Love” a sarcastic, sadistic viewpoint of relationships through teenage eyes and “6 Feet Under Without A Care” a song drenched in Pearl Jamesque grooves.

Ponder represents a fledgling band in their teenage years jumping into the studio for the first time. The lyrical content is simple when a message is present but strays to the nebulous in several spots. The guitar and drums are bright spots throughout the recording with well placed harmonic leads and some intricate fills. While Ponder is dominated by an early 90’s alternative rock direction, an eclectic array of influences show themselves in small pockets. Recorded and mixed in one day, the demo is a representation of a young band with tremendous potential that is very wet behind the ears.
